Design Team ~ A Candy Cane Christmas By Ian Rump-Smith | Craftmania Blog

Hello Crafters!!

I hope you've had a good crafting week so far?!

This week I'm revisiting one of my older favourites - a classic die of Jamie's.

The Tea Bag Folding Collection which brought back an old style of craft with a true modern twist.

This card brings a nice traditional feel to it, ideal for all ages!

OK... let me show you how it is made.

Step 1

Take an 8x8 card base - I chose an 8x8 Pebble Grey base, or you have a white option too!

Using the Plain Square Die Set, I cut out a mat in Red Mirror Card (with die number 2) and another one in Polar White (with die number 3).

I prepped my desk, laying down a plastic sheet before using my Eliter Mister Sprays to create my background.

Taking the white mat along with my Piggy Pink Ink Pad, I gently rubbed it over my mat.

The effect this gives is beautiful on its' own... like marble, but more is to come.....

I stood up from my desk for the next part..

TOP TIP - To get the best results (and to make it a little easier) - standing up prevents you from spraying the ink to close and helps for more even distribution (no big blobs lol).

I sprayed Gladiator Red Elite Mister Spray randomly over my mat and tried not to overdo it!

I do warn you, this is really therapeutic and easy to get carried away!

The ink dries very quickly, so I stuck the mats to my card using double sided tape.

Step 2

▪️For my tree sprigs - I took one of the dies from the above set, and cut out approx eight in

Polar White Elite Card.

▪️ I used Distress Oxide Inks in Peeled Paint and Crushed Olive to add colour to my die cuts.

I made four of each to make an authentic spray.

TOP TIP - Use a blending brush or Smoothie as these are soft and will prevent tearing your delicate die cuts.

📝 NOTE - The colours here don't really show up much (above Picture 📸 ) however they really stand out on the card.

▪️I then used Jamie's Clear Drying Glue to add my sprigs to the right hand side of the card

(use the photo as a guide 📸).

Step 3

To create my candy canes, I called upon an older die set (above).

I cut out four canes in Polar White and then used a red pen to add the stripes.

I glued these to the sprigs and then added some red, green and white pearls around them.

Step 4

Making the Tea Bag Folded Candy Sweet.......

I used the die set below to cut all of the pieces needed

TOP TIP - To get the best results, I used red and white PAPER here.

This is easy to fold as card can be a little too stiff.

🌟 Ideal paper weight for Tea Bag Folding is between 60gsm - 160gsm.

▪️Cut four in WHITE and four in RED.

The folds are really quite easy as you will see the fold lines are impressed into each of the die cuts.

Firstly, fold your piece in halves all the way around.

TOP TIP - Use a Bone Folder to give nice crisp folds.

📸 Picture 1 & 2

I then pushed one side inwards like in the photo, do this to both sides.

This is what it should look like

📸 Picture 3

Now lay the piece flat and and bring each side of the two triangles on the top to the middle.

📸 Picture 4

I repeated this on all my pieces and then used wet glue and slotted my pieces together, alternating the colours

I added a large pearl to the centre, however a red button would also look great!!

I glued this to my card front using wet glue.

Step 5

Finally I made the sentiment.....

I used gold mirror and Polar White Elite Card for the base, along with red mirror for the sentiment.

Once glued together, I added to my card using foam pads.

Card complete!

Such a simple card... have a go at changing the colours to green and white or even pink and white...

So many colour combinations would work lovely!

I hope you found this blog easy to follow and will have a go at creating your own versions.
