Design Team ~ Crafter's Choice Lucky Strike By Ian Rump-Smith | Craftmania Blog

Well the wait is over Crafter's.....

Following our Facebook Group Poll last week, you asked me to create a male themed card using

texture pastes.

Just for a little fun I have added in a shaker element! Not only did our lovely Lynn set a challenge, but I know these can be a struggle so I thought this would be a great add.

With Christmas just around the corner, I'm thinking about the options of Christmas snow globes and more :-)

Let's get started so you can recreate your own version of my card.

Step 1

▪️An 8x8 card base is best for this type of card - I chose these above as they are a perfect colour for this project!

▪️I cut out my frame using the above die set in matching A4 Pebble Grey Elite Card

I used Die 3 first, and then to make the frame I put it back through using Die 7, secured in the centre.

Using a sheet of A4 Polar White Elite Card I cut a mat using Die 3.

▪️Next I took Die 18 and angled this to the centre of my white mat.

I secured it with low tack tape before running through my machine.

You know me.... I'm not one for measuring and just gage by eye, but go ahead and measure

if you wish :-)

📸 Picture Below - This is how the pieces should look.

Step 2

Time to make the background using the Texture Pastes......

▪️I used chose Jamie Rodgers Crafts beautiful Gemstones Glitter Texture Pastes in colours Larimar and Argentite

▪️I placed my white mat onto my Make-Art Stay-tion Board and placed the Star Lines Stencil on top and secured with the magnets.

I taped the corners with masking tape so I could just used the Argentite in each corner.

Using a small palette knife, I spread the paste over the corners and then gently removed the tape.

I then used the Larimar paste and pasted over the rest of the design.

I removed the stencil and set my board aside to dry.

TOP TIP - Remember to wash your stencil in warm soapy water before starting the next step.

Step 3

While my paste is drying, I started to cut out my additional die cuts.

I've chosen the Sweet Dixie Ten Pin Bowling die set.

The choice is up to you when choosing your theme.

Here I cut out three bowling balls in different colours and then a mix of six pins.

I cut some scrap black card to put behind the balls and some red behind the pins.

I then cut the 'strike' sentiment in black.

The sentiment for the top was made using the JR Happy Birthday die.

To create my layers I used silver mirror card and two shades of grey.

Step 4

Now let's create our shaker element.....

In the past, I've always had one issue or another with my shakers; the most common problem being that the contents stick - either from being too big or from the static.

Not this time :-)

▪️Layer your patterned background down

Here I cut out a piece of acetate and stuck this down over the cut out square hole using a good quality double-sided tape.

▪️Next I used some 2cm wide foam tape around the centre edges (and also the outer edges).

TIP - To create the height I needed, I used two layers of double sided foam tape.

▪️Next I cut a red square (slightly bigger than the acetate) and stuck my 'strike' die cut to the centre.

▪️Using my Anti-Static Pad, I rubbed this around the acetate to prevent my contents from sticking.

I carefully tipped my chosen "shaker product" on the accetate and then removed the tape backing around the centre.

I laid my red square over top and pressed down to secure the contents.

TOP TIP - Do not over fill your window, as firstly it won't have room to shake and secondly you will cover the sentiment.

Step 5

Before adding the shaker element to my card, I put some glue onto the back of the red square and then removed the back off the tape.

I carefully centred my shaker and stuck to my card base.

📝 NOTE - Don't worry this may look untidy but the next step will change that.

Grabbing the frame from earlier... I used some 1cm foam tape around the edges and then lined my frame up with the front of the card and stuck down.

Step 6

Finally I stuck all my die cut elements to the front of my card using glue and mini foam pads.

Finished!!!!!

See ... really simple, with a little time and a love for all sticky tapes :-) lol

This card was made just for you guys, thank you so much for your input which helped made it happen!! Let me know what you think in the comments or on the Group and if you'd like to run this again. We as a Design Team are here to help so your ideas are important to us :-)

Now it's over to you... go have fun creating and I look forward to seeing your creations on our  Facebook Group - Create With Craftmania And Jamie Rodgers.

Cheers everyone and enjoy your week crafting.

Take Care
