Design Team ~ Jamie Rodgers Crafts Mats & Layers Collection ~ Floral Retirement Card By Ian Rump-Smith | Craftmania Blog

Did I fool any of you? Forgive me...

I'm bringing you my Wednesday Blog to you on Thursday this week to coincide with the exciting launch of Jamie Rodgers Crafts NEW Collection!!

Hopefully you managed to catch Jamie on the TV at the weekend, however if you did miss it,

head over to 🎥 Jamie Rodgers Crafts YouTube Channel to see the NEW Collection, plus upcoming demos and more!

This weeks' card will be using those 'essential' from the Mats & Layers Collection die sets, along with the gorgeous Cosmo Flower dies from the Florist Collection.

My card is a retirement card, however you could easily make it to suit your preferred occasion.

Step 1

With this chosen card fold, you can either make it with three squares (or even two). The choice is yours!

▪️Take the Plain Squares Die Set

Cut out 2 squares using the third biggest die in Polar White Elite card.

Next, I used the largest die from the set to cut another square using the same card.

▪️ I then took the largest mat and cut this in half, before sticking it back together with low tack tape

I know it sounds a little strange but bear with me... I promise it will all come apparent!

▪️Next I took a smaller mat and put it in the middle of the large mat, in order to create a narrow border each side.

▪️I made a pencil mark, and then using a ruler and a thin embossing tool to make a crease each side. This will act as the hinges for the card.

Step 2

▪️I took a smaller square die from the set (13th from the largest) and centralised it in the centre of the cut. I then taped this down and ran through my machine.

📝 NOTE - I removed the die and tape, but left the tape on in the centre for the next step.

▪️Using double sided tape on my large mat folded edges, I put a smaller mat onto the large mat as accurately as I could (with my eyes levelling them up).

I am terrible for not measuring, but please feel free to do it sensibly lol.

▪️I then removed the tape from the edges and folded them inwards.

I then cut off the excess from the top and bottom to make the card level.

As you can see (see Photo Above 📸) the spines show; so with the extra mat we cut earlier, you can stick this down over the spines so they are covered.

This is how the card should look.

Step 3

Using the above die with Silver Mirror Card I cut my strips to go around the front of my card.

📝 NOTE - I did not use on the spines.

For inside of the card, I cut two layers from Seashell Blue and Rose Petal Pink Elite Card.

I used the Fluted Squares die set to cut these.

For the sentiment, I chose a Creative Expressions "Happy Retirement" die which wascut in Silver Mirror. I glued this to the bottom left of the card.

Step 4

▪️Now for the beautiful Cosmos Flowers..... I couldn't wait to play with these!!!!!

I used Jamie Rodgers Crafts Cosmos Flower and Cosmos Leaves die sets.

▪️I used the same shades of pink and blue Elite Card as before, and also included Meadow Grass Green for the leaves.

▪️I cut a few layers of petals - don't worry if you cut too many as these can be used for another project.

📝 NOTE - The centres I cut in the blue, however I got carried away creating and forgot to add in the photo.

▪️Using a moulding mat and a thin embossing tool, I gently creased in the centre of every petal, which I then glued together.

▪️I added the blue centres...

I then pushed into the centre of each assembled flower with a ball tool to give better dimension.

✅ TIP - I used different size ball tools. I used a smaller ball tool on the leaves to make them stand out more.

🌟See how these fabulous Cosmos Flowers already have a debossed detail to them, which are created as you cut them.

They are amazing to work with, and look so professional - perfect for every crafter!!

I glued all my flowers and foliage to the front of my card.

That's it all complete!

I hope you found this an easy blog to follow... please feel free to get in touch with any questions, we love to hear from you!

Go on and make your own versions and colours, and don't forget to share on our Facebook Group - Create With Craftmania And Jamie Rodgers.
