Happy Saturday!
I do hope you’ve all had a great crafting week and have been catching up with all the new products out there.
I was very much in my element making this card... I do get a little excited when the products pop an idea in my head and tell me to go down the mixed media route.
For those of you who are new to Mixed Media, don't be afraid!! There are no set rules when it comes to creating, so just experiment and use what products you appeal to you....
I tend to get carried away... hence why you will find a long list of products for this card lol.
The key is just to have fun!!
For this project, I used the products below. These are in July's Hand Picked By Jamie Kit.
Some of which are still available to purchase separately if you wish.
First of all, I used a piece of card which I die cut the Creative Expressions Betsy Die, Creative Expressions Climbing Floral Vine Die and the 3D Paper Cuts Sitting Pretty Die.
Here is a few sheets of card I made using my Cosmic Shimmer Pixie Powders a while back.
I tend to have a session where I make a number of backgrounds, and as best practice I then take a photo of them with the colours I've used for reference.... so I don't forget!
For this one I have used :-
At this point, I also die cut the 3D Paper Cuts Sitting Pretty Die in black card, so I could have a Sherlock Cat on the back of the bike :-)
For the next step, the bicycle told me it needed a brick wall to lean against, so I decided to make one and used the following products.
As I didn’t want to create an "inky wall" but more of an authentic look, I chose to use
Kraft Card
Creative Expressions Mini Stencil - Brick Wall
Cosmic Shimmer Lava Paste
I spread the Cosmic Shimmer Lava Paste on the stencil and card a couple of times next to each other, then with extra paste spread a bit more around and in between the bricks, so it looked like the render had fallen off. Now carefully using the heat tool I dried the Paste (without it bubbling up).
Follow this, I then used my Vintage Photo and Crackling Campfire Distress Ink Pads to I rub over some of the bricks. I also used my fingers to apply Crackling Campfire Distress Ink and Salvaged Patina Ink over the ‘All In Stripes’ and ‘Smile’ Mini Stencils to create a graffiti effect on the wall!
For my next step, I got an 8x8" card blank which I slightly cut down, (mainly because I didn’t make my brick wall big enough), and coloured it with Cosmic Shimmer Colour Cloud Blending Ink - Clear Day and went over it with white clouds.
Next with foam roll and glue on the back, I stuck the wall on the card (the foam roll keeps the wall flat on the card).
Now, going back to the bicycle which I had cut earlier, I cut the cat off and replaced it with a black one. I rubbed some Distress Ink Hickory Smoke on the wheels and pedal, and some Distress Ink -Vintage Photo on the handle and seat. (I do this with my finger as I have more control).
For the flowers in the basket, I used the new colours of Cosmic Shimmer Fluffy Stuff which are another fantastic medium to work with, as you just heat with your heat tool and there is no waiting time to dry!!
Then I attached the bicycle to the wall with 3D glue so it’s not totally flat.
Using the Diamond Trellis Mini Stencil, I just dabbed a bit each side on the top half with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink .
Next I got my Creative Expressions Climbing Vine Floral die cut and snipped it up, and tucked it behind the top of the wall.
Now I needed some pots and baskets for the detail....
For this job, I used Woodware's Heart Cactus and Hanging Basket Stamps by Francoise Read.
I stamped these out with Archival Ink - Leaf Green and coloured them with Cosmic Shimmer Iridescent Water Colour Paints. Used mainly the Perfect Pastels (Set 8) and a couple of greens from Carnival Brights (Set 2).
I use one of the water brushes and use a piece of kitchen towel to dab and soak up any excess water.
When these are done, I cut them out using a knife or tweezer scissors - I find these best!
Going back to my Creative Expressions Betsy Die - I stuck this in the middle on pads, and with the Sentiment Stamps in the Bundle, I stamped out Happy Birthday in Detail Gold Embossing Powder. I cut this out using an oval die that was in a Sue Wilson’s Christmas Sentimental Bauble Die Set.
I felt that I needed a wooden beam for my hanging baskets and cacti pot, so I made on with a strip of Kraft Card. Again I spread Cosmic Shimmer Lava Paste on, heated up and coloured with Distress Ink in Frayed Burlap using an applicator and stuck this on the top of the card with pads.
For my finishing touches, I coloured two pearls in yellow for the flowers on the wall and two more gems brown, for the bicycle wheel centres. I even found a flower gem for the basket in my stash .
To hide my creativeness... I popped a clean piece of card on the back as I got a bit messy.
I also stuck a piece of card behind the front piece to reinforce it, as the card is quite weighty on the front.
Gosh I don’t think I’ve left anything out lol .
I hope my card inspires you to be daring and use everything you want to use....
My tip to you is not to stick everything together until you are absolutely happy with the outcome.
Don’t forget to look out for more tips and techniques from Jamie on his Facebook Page (under photos) and YouTube Channel, and he also has loads of inspiration in his Blog as well!!
