Hand Picked By Jamie ~ September Bundle - Christmas Town By Ian Rump-Smith

Christmas Town By Ian Rump-Smith - Hand Picked By Jamie September | Craftmania

It's my favourite time of the week again.... where I get to share my crafty antics with you....

I can't believe this is my last card of September, which does make me a little sad, as it will also be my last Christmas card for a while!!

However don't despair guys, the exciting part is that a brand new Hand Picked By Jamie Bundle is only just around the corner :-)

So I hope you have all had a good week, and are ready with some free crafting time to have a go at todays' blog!!

Today I felt in the mood to create a mix of modern with a twist of grunge!!

Excited?? Ok here goes.....

We are going to be using one of my favourites - Cosmic Shimmer Pixie Powders!

Used in the correct way, you can add the perfect grunge effect, yet still keep that mix of modern.

Excited?? Ok here goes.....

Always remember, you can try different colours to make the card your own... there are absolutely no rules here!

As always, the Shopping List for this card can be found at the bottom of the page.

I started with a sheet of white 300gsm card, and folded it in half using a bone folder in order to create a nice neat crease.

For the next step, I needed to create a base for my Cosmic Shimmer Pixie Powders, so I took a second sheet of white card, and cut a section measuring 14cm x 20.3cm.

Working with Pixie Powders

Now if you are new to using Pixie Powders / Pixie Sparkle, you will see crafters working on different work surfaces.

My personal preference is to work on a Glass Craft Mat when using Pixie Sparkles or Powders, as you can spritz with water and wipe clean using a paper towel.

If you have watched Jamie's demonstrations, you will know that he likes to use a tin tray / or grill pan)

Here you will see I am working with Cosmic Shimmer Pixie Sparkles in colours - Groovy Grape and Blue Wish.

  • TOP TIP - Spray the back of your card lightly with water, as this prevents the card bending and curling as you are working

Once you have spritzed the reverse of your card, lay it back down onto your glass mat and spray all over, but being careful not to soak the paper.

Now the real fun and magic begins...

Tap the powders over the area with the aim of filling the blank space. You can do as little, or as much as you wish, however remember you can always add more if needed.

Spritz a little more water as you are working if needed, or powder so you achieve the coverage you are wanting to achieve.

Once you are happy with the result, you can set aside to dry.

Here you have the option of using a heat tool, or leaving to dry naturally. Bear in mind, that if you are using a heat tool, then this may move the water and powders around.

Once your background is completely dry, you can move onto the next stage.

Take your Stamping Platform and the Woodware Sparkly Baubles Stamp from your Bundle, along with VersaFine Clair Nocturne Ink Pad.

Stamp your image onto your background... now you don't have to keep re-stamping the image if it is faint, as this adds more grunge to the card.

For the next step you will need another sheet of white card and your Woodware Christmas Street Stamp Set. Stamp out four houses onto your white card.

Return your background to your Stamping Platform, and using the single house stamp from the set, stamp about half way over (bottom of the house) on the right side.

Now you need to colour in the windows on all houses with a yellow Alcohol Pen.

The doors on the different houses should be coloured in different colours.

Now to add dimension to the card, layer your houses on top of one another to create different levels. Here I used 2mm Foam Pads on the middle two, and then 3mm Foam Pads on the front two.

I then stamped two random trees using my Stamp Block.

I wanted to add snow effects, and I created this using Cosmic Shimmer 3D Pearl Accents in White Pearl and Titanium. I dotted these around above the houses!

Then I wanted to out some snow on the rooftops at the foot of the houses and for good measure, on the trees too. Again, I used the White 3D Pearl Accents.

I love really love this product, as it dries so quickly and that's perfect for me as I have no patience lol!

You will see you card starting to come together.....

However, before we get into the detail of adding those finishing touches, we need to create our mat and layers before sticking our beautiful background onto our card base.

Take a sheet of your Holographic Reflections Card, and with your Pixie Sparkles background, measure a thin border around the edge (mine is approximately 4mm as shown in the photo below).

Once you are happy with the size, adhere with some Cosmic Shimmer Dries Clear Glue or red liner tape, whichever you prefer. Then glue these to your white card blank which you made earlier.

Now for those all important finishing touches...

I chose to use one of Sue Wilson's Mini Expressions sentiments "May your Christmas Sparkle."

I cut this from Craftmania's White Smouldering Silk Card and glued it to the top right hand side of the card.

Then for that little extra touch, I added some gems to the centre of the three baubles, and then decorated each bauble with Cosmic Shimmer Twinkles in Graceful Pink to add highlights.

Bear in mind, this will take longer to dry, and hence why it's best to leave this to the last part of the project!!

Your card is now complete!!!!!!
