Hey all!
Continuing our Spotlight featuring Sweet Dixie die sets, I have jumped forward to Christmas with this seasonal themed card.
I created my card by using a 5x7 card blank for the base, with my crease on the left hand side, giving it a horizontal fold.
Now just before we start cutting out, if you haven't seen the Maya Card this is perfect for paper piecing your dies. It comes in 33 fantastic colours in 270gsm!
Firstly, we need to mat and layer the card front.
I chose to use a burgundy colour, along with a decorative sheet from Creative Expressions Classic Christmas Paper Pack by Jamie Rodgers.... I love this as it makes me think of wallpaper :-)
Now, all the die cutting for this card is straight forward (apart from the fire place). Use my photos as your guide for colours.
You will need Sweet Dixie's Die Set called 'Fireplace.'
It is amazingly detailed and has so many different dies to play with, especially if you love paper piecing.
✅ About Paper Piecing
▪️If unsure what paper piecing is then I will explain.....
Most dies will have pieces that fall out after you have run them through your die cutting machine. Once you cut the die again in another colour, you can use the fall-out pieces to fill the holes to give your die cut more colour.
▪️In today's example, we can use a single die that only cuts out one piece, but cut it 3 times in different colours and then snip pieces off and make the die cut look realistic.
▪️Here, the candle arch has been cut in gold first, then in white and yellow, and these pieces glued to the gold cut.
Ok... so let's get the Fireplace out of the way and then the rest will be plain sailing (so as to speak!)
I cut the fireplace out in Kraft card (this was the only die cut I didn't use my Maya card on).
Now carefully bend the whole of the hearth towards the fireplace, and then bend the pattern part of the hearth forward so it looks like the photo below.
I then cut just the tiled area of the hearth with a light grey and glued it in place.
Now using white card, cut the fire surround and carefully snip away.
✅ NOTE - Keep the white piece from this die cut and put aside.
With a piece of tan card, cut just the mantle and glue.
Next glue the white die cut and tan piece onto the fireplace.
Cut a piece of black card big enough to cover the fireplace back, as this will be the inside of your fireplace.
Next I used a Rusty Hinge Oxide Ink Pad with a Blending Smoothie to colour the little white pieces you put aside earlier. These can be used as random bricks... add to the fireplace where you wish!
Adhere the completed fireplace to your card....I used raised foam pads at the folded bottom to make it secure on the card.
Now for the fun part.... you will be a paper piecer after this!
Take your Maya card (use the photo above as a guide)... cut out all the remaining pieces in the set and then add to your card.
TIPS
✅ I used Silver Mirri Card for the fire utensils
✅ For the green stocking, I cut and reversed it to face opposite way
✅ For the holly, I added some pearl glue for the berries
✅ For the cat, I used a fineliner pen to add detail to the face
Once complete, you can add your sentiments.....
I used Creative Expressions Die - "From Our House To Yours" and also "Happy Holidays" from the Creative Expressions Traditional Christmas Wordies Sheets.
Remember you save 10% on all Sweet Dixie dies until the 29th April 2023!
